    if i copy and paste a button in to a spreadsheet
    how do i change the colour of it please?
    not the text but the background

    i copied it from an attached spreadsheet on here and use these same one ever since

    You can only change the background colour of a activex control.

    If you need to be in design mode before you can select the button it is an activex control. You would use the Properties window to select alternate colour.

    Forms are the old style of buttons. You have less control over formatting but that is not always a bad thing. They have no events although you can assign a macro to them

    ActiveX controls have more formatting options and events. But they do carry an overhead for the extras they provide.
