Hi,
I have a sheet containing list of names at say "A1" to "A300"
in another sheet i have to enter information like payments etc to any of these names. format of the data entry sheet is as below:
Names Date Amt.Paid etc
My problem is when I make an entry, i should get list of names in column A and I should be able to select a name form the list. This would validate the names.
Can somebody suggest a way to do this.

Use a dynamic named range coupled with data validation.
Click on Insert>Name>Define and create a list called Names and the Refers to: should be
=INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$A, 1):INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$A, COUNTA(Sheet1!$A:$A))
(assuming your names are on Sheet1)
Now select the cells where you're going to enter names, select Data > Validation and use Allow: List and Source: =Names
Now your pick list of names will stay updated as you add/subtract names from the first sheet.

With up to 300 names in your list, are you sure what you're looking for is a validation drop box?
