Excel search to return a location formula or macro??

    Good morning everyone,

I interested in trying to be able to search a database (Worksheet) with a formula OR for that matter maybe a macro.

    Example...Lottery db 1

In rows B5:G2145 are my combinations (DONE IN ROWS), now in cells K20,L20,M20,N20,O20,P20, I would input the numbers of the combination I was looking for (K20=1/L20=2/M20=3/N20=4/O20=5/P20=6) TO find in my DB which is from B5:G2145 and return the location of 1-2-3-4-5-6 in R20, WHICH would reference a date found in column A5:A2145.

Now the tricky part, lets say only part of the combination is found, like either the FIRST (2 or 3) numbers or the LAST (2 or 3) numbers in reference to cells K20,L20,M20,N20,O20,P20. Is there a way this formula OR macro could tell me with a pop up window [" Only part of combo found" IN "date of"]

Would a Macro be better than a formula for this OR is it better to use a formula??

I am using xls 2010 and tired to be as specific as possible so someone could help me. Personally I believe this will have to be a Macro as I know a formula can only do so much. If someone could help me construct this I would greatly appreciate this.

    Thank you all

If these are previously won number combinations (the six digits) you could CONCATENATE the numbers in a helper column and do the same for your search and use VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH to determine if the number combination has come up.

What is your end goal with your lottery questions? Are you are trying to figure out the odds of winning combinations in order to increase your chances of winning, the overall odds are published by the lottery corporations. The odds of winning the jackpot say 14,000,000 to 1 or the odds of winning with a 3 digit combination being maybe 20:1 (just made up figures).

No these are not winning numbers that I would be checking .
With my combination generator that gives me a combination. With this combination I want to check against the database of pass winnings.
