    populating xcell with numbered list

    I am trying to learn spanish and have vocabulary lists such as:

    1 base la base
    2 baseball la pelota de béisbol
    3 basket la canasta

    When I try to copy and post this list into excel it come out as:

    1 base la base 2 baseball la pelota de béisbol 3 basket la canasta .

    When I use a large list,say 20 words,it comes out as a box containing the list
    ,e.g. a boxed 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,
    9,10,11,12,13.

    I should add that I need to use excel because it dovetails with aflashcard program I am using that will accept data from excel.

    Could someone please tell me how to populate.

    if you copy
    1 base la base
    2 baseball la pelota de béisbol
    3 basket la canasta
    then just select the cell in excel (do NOT CLICK CELL AGAIN or the cursor will flash in it and thats not what you want) then right click/paste special/text
    and it will fill 3 seperate cells one below the other

    Thanks Martin:

    I tried what you suggested, being careful only to right click,but it gave me a horizontal input along a row.
    What my flash program needs is 2 columns,probably with unnumbered rows(I won t know until I get a vocabulary list from excel)with unnumbered rows.
    I wonder if we have to first use access to prepare the list?
    To give you a better idea, I take my data from http://my.spanishdict.com/vocabulary...mList%3A248388, at the bottom under “vocabulary list terms”.This presents a few additional problems in that there is an audio code that is also copied. I think I get around that by making 2 visits to excel..the first time I just randomly paste the clipboard, and it seems to ditch the audio code. I then copy and paste that output as it is shown on excel, ,and use it as my new input from clipboard….at least I am getting just text at that point.
    But the list comes out horizontal,and not in the 2 columns I need.
    I am just giving you my perception of what is happening here, I am very inexperienced
    In this regard, and much appreciation for taking the time with your input.Any solution will be most welcome as it would be a big step forward in my Spanish training, since the
    Flash card program has the unique feature of determining words that I have mastered, and thus quickly eliminating them..Thus I am hopng to learn quicker.

    well you must be doing something wrong!!!
    see attached i copied the info from that vocab window and pasted back special using all 3 options and none of them put it all in one row! I'll record a video but i cant post it from work. maybe tonite.
    p.s. good luck with the Spanish lessons, i did 4 years at night school and can still only just about book a table in a restaurant or do the shopping!

    I often am wrong when it comes to anything beyond the a,b,c,s of sotware theory. will definitely double check. I have office 2003. But I admit I am totally unfamilar with excel, and actually what you say is consoling. i can t fix it now cause I am in the middle of a trip to corn islands in nicaraugua, and have to leave my laptop behind.

    Thanks again and I will definitely get back to it as soon as I get back.

    Add on..I could not see the example cause the hotel computer does not have excel.But I went back to my laptop,and see that the solution doesn t really help, cause the flash card program requires a format with or without the numbers as follows
    in 2 separate columns:

    pan bread
    esparar to wait
    man hombre

    Without the columns there would be no way to detect which part of the words are spanish and which are english.
    I guess I should have made that clearer from this end.

    I think it is a good way to learn spanish for me,cause the program ensures that I know the words cold, and minimizes the time to do so enormously.
