We had been using Excel 2000 on our PCs and Excel 2004 on our Macs and we use spreadsheets that have protected worksheets in them. Some of the data in the worksheets is updated/populated from another spreadsheet via links.
Until recently this has not been a problem. The first spreadsheet is opened, you are then prompted to update links etc, that was fine using Excel 2000, however since upgrading to Excel 2003, we can no longer update the links/value as the source button is greyed out so we are unable to browse to the desired source file.
We have discovered this is to do with protected worksheets in the spreadsheet. Once we discovered this, we created a workaround. When the first spreadsheet is opened we don't update values/update later. Then we run a macro on the document which removes all protection from the worksheets. Once we do this we can then go to links and the source button is no longer greyed out so we can browse to desired source file and values can then update. This problem never showed in either Excel 2000 or Excel 2004, only in Excel 2003.
Other than the irratating macro workaround we have to run each and everytime does anybody know anything else that can be done about this and/or perhaps an insight as to why this is happening at all ?
Many thanks in advance !
