    Remove brackets without format change

    I have a values in square brakets.
    For example :
    [001321672825]
    [0004234029E8]
    When a remove brackets value format changes to :
    1321672825
    423402900000000 (4.23E+14)

    I would like to remove brackets without format change.
    [001321672825] --> 001321672825
    [0004234029E8] --> 0004234029E8

    Highlight your data and run Edit Replace twice:

    First:

    Replace: [
    With: '

    Then again:

    Replace: ]
    With: (nothing)

    Should work.

    Hi,

    You could alter the format setting of the range to text prior to removeing the brackets.
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

    Dave, I think you'll find that won't work.

    It work for me when the brackets are removed "manually" by editing the cell. However, when using find and replace it doesn't. Is this a version specific issue?

    No I don't think so - I did not envisage OP manually altering all records so had presumed (incorrectly) that you were applying this as precursor to Edit -> Replace action.
