    Datevalue function

I am trying to use DATEVALUE function to convert the date (01/10/2009) to value. I have the date in cell A2 and when I use DATEVALUE(A2) it gives me an error. However, adding ' before the date eliminates this error. I have several rows of data like this and cannot add ' before each one of them manually. Is there a way to get around this problem? Thank you.

what do you mean by converting date to a value?. It already is a value. Do you mean you want to see the serial number value? If so format the cell as General.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
