    formula to pick cell color

    Hi,

this might be trivial, but is nagging me quite a lot. I have a project master list with timelines (that are colored cells) in one sheet. In the other sheet (W2) i have the projects sorted as per priority (using a formula). I want that in W2, depending on the Project title, i should be able to pick up the cell color (timelines) as well. Can anyone suggest how this can be done?

    Regards

    Gurpreet,

I'm sure a macro could do it for you, but I would look at Conditional Formatting. If the cells only contain colour rather than data you could insert up to three colour options depending on the value you put into the cell?

i.e. 1 = red, 2 = green and 3 = blue. That way, rather than colouring each cell you just enter a number and it turns the right colour. You can set the text colour too in Conditional Formatting so it turns the same colour as the cell background and is therefore (effectively invisible).

Then - you have something to relate to from your other worksheet(?)

Click on 'Format' > 'Conditional Formatting'.
