Conditional formatting

    Conditional formatting

    I know that when you have a formula in a cell you can drag from the corner of it to put that formula in other cells. However, this doesn't appear to work for 'Conditional Formatting' How do I do this?

    Select the cell with the conditional formatting and click on Format Painter Brush on the home tab in the clipboard section and now click on the cell where you want to impose that conditional formatting. You can double click on the Format Painter Brush if you want to apply conditional formatting on more than one cell by keep on clicking the cells where you want to apply that conditional formatting.

    Thanks for that but I still don't seem to be able to do what I want to do.

    Here is what I want.

    I have a column with numbers in each of its cells. In the next column I want the cells adjacent to the ones in the first column to turn RED if LESS THAN, GREEN if GREATER THAN or be ORANGE if EQUAL TO the adjacent cell. I have worked out how to do that with no problem.

    Now, I want to repeat that formating across the whole workbook so that the NEXT column will relate to the second column and so on across the page.

    Any ideas?

    The sktneer's advice works well.

    Maybe something about the formulas you are using.

    ONE OF THE WAYS:

    Suppose:
    ...A....B....C....D
    1..1....2....3....4
    2..1....2....3....4
    3..1....2....3....4

    Select B1
    Conditional Format
    Formula
    1st -> =B1<A1 color Green
    2nd -> =B1=A1 color Orange
    3rd -> =B1>A1 color Red
    Ok

    Result
    ...A....B....C....D
    1..1....2....3....4
    2..1....2....3....4
    3..1....2....3....4

    Select B1
    Copy
    Select ALL de cells you want to apply this conditional format
    Special paste
    Format
    Ok

    You can use the method of Sktneer either.
    Or you can use the APPLY TO field(faster) at Conditional Format Menu to designate a range where you want this works.

    As you can see, excel is very flexible.
