Downloading data from external accounts

is there any method to have Excel connect to outside database sources and update cells based on what it finds? I'm talking stuff like bank accounts or credit card accounts
if it's impossible directly, is there a workaround to make it happen?

Data->import->web query will suffice for non-secured websites. I think a workaround using sendkeys (VBA) would be possible to allow entering passwords etc. but obviously I'd highly recommend not writing your bank account information into a VBA module...
