    Finding number

    Hi,

    I have a number in column “A” and I want to match them with column “D“, the number in column “C” and “D” is true value. Please find attached sample sheet for more detail. Hope some one understand

    You can convert column D to numbers to match column A by selecting column D and go to Data|Text to Columns... then click Finish...

    Then use formula

    =VLOOKUP(A1,C:D,2,0)

    or you can just use:

    =VLOOKUP(TEXT(A1,"#"),C:D,2,0)

    copied down.

    i dont understand how i can convert and where i should put formula ???

    I assumed you wanted the formula in column B... so put the formula in B1 and copy it down the column.

    To convert column C to numbers to match the format of column A...you would select Column C, go to Data|Text to Columns and just click Finish.

    Then you would put the first formula in B1 and copy down.

    If you do not want to convert...then use the 2nd formula in B1 and copy down.

    that symbol is used in the TEXT() function to convert a number string to a text string in a general format
