Wildcard Find and Replace

I want to Find and Replace some text in a cell. The contents will look something like this:

http://www.mysite.com/index.php?vari...&variable2=abc

I only want to remove the &variable2=abc, where the abc will be changing all the time.

Tricky? Or possible?

as shown just use find &var*
replace with nothing

Questions:

-- are you always replacing the same variable (variable2) ?

-- is the variable consistently placed in the same part of the URL ?

-- is the value associated with the variable of a consistent length ?
