Error when copying and pasting fields with validation

I am having the strangest of issues.

I have created a daily operating room schedule in which each time slot has a drop down box for the Doctor doing the procedure and the Group of doctors from which he/she came.

It is a yearly schedule with each day of each month duplicated on a tab for that month - the same daily schedule for each.

I have been able to duplicate each day right up until the 25th of the month in which I attempt to save the spreadsheet and am given an error stating it can not save some of the data, though the data appears to be intact (the validation drop down lists)

Upon closing and reopening the spreadsheet, all of the cells that contain validation including and after the 25th of the month are simply gone.

I have attempted to attach a copy of the file but I keep encountering an error with the database.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am very near to being bald

I was able to reproduce your problem.
I'm using Excel 2007 and when i save your file as an Excel 2003 file then your problem appears.
Saving your file as a 2007 file there seams to be no problem.

I don't know if it helps you but nevertheless.

Thank you, I appreciate you taking a look at it. I do not have 2007 so that won't help on my end, but - I appreciate it.

It seems as though we've reached some sort of excel limit on formats/validation?

I can't figure it out exactly... the minute I add one more validation drop down it errors out when I try to save... if I delete what I added, it allows saving....

I did notice that you had merged cells after validating so I unmerged and deleted the extra columns... to try to reduce the number of data validation lists, but still it would not allow me to add more validation...

I am not sure what the problem is...

Thank you - any thoughts you could give would be greatly appreciated. I hate to have to get rid of one of them entirely, though it is looking more and more like I may have to.

I tried transposing the columns horizontally to see what would happen... it didn't work out.. there must be some limit.. I don't see it in writing anywhere... maybe I overlooked it somewhere....

Anyways, it seems upgrading to 2007 is the way to go.. or finding someway to reduce the amount on each sheet...

I have a question about upgrading. If I do upgrade and create the file in 2007, will those with 2003 be able to utilize it?

I am creating this for work and they do not have 2007.

I think they might still have the problem of missing data validation... in that last day of the month....

Have you considered ComboBoxes instead?

It looks and acts very similar to drop down validation lists (and is actually more versatile in that you can link cells to the results,etc)...

These are objects that get placed in the sheet over the cells and a list is contained within them...

you might get away with having much more allowed.

It is found in the Tools|View|Forms toolbar...
