    Question Chart Labels alignment

    Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. I'm glad to be part of Excel forum team.
Now, I got a doubt in excel chartting.

I created a stacked- column chart and tried to insert the labels on top of each column. While I was doing so, I was surprised that there's no option of "Outside End" in the label position. I found options "Inside End", "Centre", " Inside base".

I want the label to be at the outside end.

Could anyone help me with this and the reason for disappearing of the option"Outside end" in Label alignment.

Am I clear to you guys?

    I thank you in advance.

    Re: Chart Labels alignment

    Hi,

when you have clustered columns, you can place the lable on the outside end, i.e. above the column. But when you stack your columns, you can not do that. The reason, I assume, is that you would only be able to place the label for the uppermost series outside the column, but for the lower levels it would be confusing as to which column they belong. If you stack three series, and have the labels on the outside end, the lower and the middle series would have their labels .... where? If they are above the series, they would be INSIDE the next series up. WAAAYYYY too confusing. So, no outside end label positioning with stacked column charts.

    cheers

    Re: Chart Labels alignment

This is an incorrect assumption, though I follow the logic. I have two pivot charts that are identical in every way (except for the actual data they show). They are both stacked bar charts. On one I can align the data labels "outside end" on the other it does not give me an option to do so. "Inside end" is the only option. Quite a head-scratcher.
