    Make one cell count twice in AVG if certain text conditions apply- Excel2008

    Hello!

    I am using Excel to tabulate votes for a contest. Judges have given a number to each entry, and but certain judges' opinions need to count twice as much as other judges' opinions based on their qualifications.

    I've attached the file to help illustrate what I'm trying to do. Morris's votes need to count twice for all Photography or Web Design entries, and Clark's votes need to count twice for all Graphic Design or Web Design entries.

    I know I can do this manually by simply copying the number into a blank cell in another column (like the blank column between Morris and Clark's names), but is there any way to make Excel do this for me?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    I would make one slight change, in that I'd have each area of expertise on an individual line to save some trouble when searching for them.

    Then go with a sumif, see attached file.
    Note the yellow areas.

    It adds each of the areas of expertise once, IE photography is totalled, then Web design is totalled, then those totals are added to the original tally, effectively counting each of the points in their expert area twice.

    Thanks, but I'm trying to average the numbers across, not down.

    EX:
    L3 should be the average of D3 counted twice and F3 counted once.
    L14 should be the average of D14 counted once and F14 counted twice.

    A non array solution, but requires helper columns.

    How to mark a thread Solved
    Go to the first post
    Click edit
    Click Go Advanced
    Just below the word Title you will see a dropdown with the word No prefix.
    Change to Solved
    Click Save
