    FOrmula being treated as text

    Hi all,

    This must be a familiar problem!

    I have come across it numerous times and always find some way around it but there must be a definitive way.

    Sometimes I type in a formula (e.g. =A1+B2) and the formula is treated as text. How do I force it to be a formula rather than just text? I have formatting the cell as "general" but this does not work.

    Unfortunately I do not have a sample to show at the moment.

    Format the cell as something other than Text before entering the formula.

    As shg says always best to address the issue before entering formulae ... if however it occurs afterwards there are two quick ways to resolve, highlight cells of issue then either:

    1 - via Data -> Text to Columns -> Click Finish

    2 - via Edit -> Replace -> What: = With: =

    for the odd cell you can obviously format the cell to General then hit F2 and subsequently Enter.
