Question Unable to find "Name" in Workbook

    Hi all,

Has anyone experience of the following problem I have, and more importantly willing to share how to solve, or at least give me an explanation of what is happening.

I have a very large workbook with multiple sheets. When trying to copy a sheet and place within the workbook I get the folling appear in a dialogue box:-

A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name "awef" which already exists on the destination sheet. Do you want to use this version of the name?

This message appears for a number of names not just 'awef'.

Not matter what I reply Yes or No when I try to locate the named range via
    insert-
    name-
    define-

I can see no sign of it / them.

Anyone have any thoughts on this please,

    many thanks for any assistance,

    John

Re: Unable to find "Name" in Workbook

Is it possible the name is hidden?

Try this in the immediate window
    ALT+F11 (goto editor)
    CTRL+G (goto immediate window)

Please Login or Register to view this content.
it should list all names and whether they are visible or not.
    Cheers

I guess they are hidden because somebody did not want you to see them.
Who that somebody is I can not tell you. Possible the original author maybe MS.

Has the workbook been shared or had tracking enabled at any point?

Re: Unable to find "Name" in Workbook

    Andy, thanks for your reply.

Sorry I dont seem to be explaining my concerns very well.

As you say somehow these "hidden" names have been placed into the worksheet, however having found them, they do not seem to reference anywhere?
Is this possible, and therefore I can just delete them,
    or is it,
if they are there, then they must be referencing somewhere? (How do I find out where?)

In which case I had better do some more checking before deleting them.

The other concern is are there any hidden names
that are need by the aplication?

    sorry its long winded.

Re: Unable to find "Name" in Workbook

Did you expand your code to see exactly what the names where referencing or set to? Or make them visible so you can see them in the Name Manager dialog.

Without know exactly what they are I can not tell you whether to delete them or not.
