    Post Colour coding cells

    Dear readers!

I have a slight issue which I hope some fo you guys can help me resolve.

I have an Excel sheet with different grades of people and their exam scores in percentage.

What I want to do is tally the different exams in the year and then have an average score for that individual. Hence, I could have scores of 55%, 75%, 80%, 42% and 58% for Student A. That will give me an average of 62% for that student.

I can do that part of the formula but I want to add an extra feature to that... I want to have the cell go a certain colour automatically if it falls into a certain level. Such as any average below 40% the cell turns amber, any average between 40% and 70% the cell turns green, and any average above 70% turns yellow.

Can someone tell me how to incorporate this into my formula or if this is at all possible to do on Excel? I am using Excel version 2002.

    I would be very grateful.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Re: Colour coding cells

You need to conditionally format the cell where the result appears - you can't include it in the formula that calculates the result.

select the cell > format > conditional formatting and take it from there.
