Unhappy Excel formula for due dates

I have a sheet where I need to track deliverables by monthly due dates or quarterly whatever the case

I want one column by the Task ie D to be where I put the date item delivered

Under the months i.e I want the text to populate into each cell to show ON Time or LATE and to remain static

When I use an If formula I cannot get each month to remain after I input the date

ie the formula =IF(D2=DATEVALUE("9/8/08"),"On Time","Late") then the next one should be same string with 10/08/08 etc....

When I put the date delivered in D it changes all of them everytime how do I get the ON Time to stay upon entering the next months delivered date?

    THANK YOU.

Can you please upload a sample file to help us understand the context better?

In the mean time, this guess may point you in the right direction:

insert an extra row at the top of your sheet above the existing headers.
    the new Cell E1 =

Cell E3 ie the first data row (now row 3) =

    where
Column C is a column with the appropriate "Due Date" for each row &
Column D is the "date item delivered"
