    Select entire range and go to Format|Conditional Formatting

    Select Formula Is from 1st drop down and enter formula: =MOD($A1,2)=0

    where A1 is top most cell in your selection containing transaction number. Change as necessary, but do not remove $ sign.. it fixes the column.

    Click Format and choose highlight colour.
    Where there is a will there are many ways.

    If ever you need to determine even numbers and the computer language you're programming in doesnt have a MOD function this method will work:

    IF INT(x/2)*2 = x THEN {it's an even number} ELSE {it's an odd number}

    Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

    Select New Rule and then select Use a formula to determine which cells to format
