Excel linked word document - save without breaking links

Hello,

I've created a Word document with linked fields from a Excel spreadsheet.

I need to to be able to duplicate the excel spreadsheet and word document to create fresh reports.

However whether through individual "save as" attempts or copying and pasting both files together to new locations, the links continue to break.

Any ideas?

Are these files in the same directory? Usually, if you maintain the files in the same directory or the same directory structure then they shouldn't break.


Assuming the files are in different directories, you should be able to make it work if you save the file that is linked to in the same relative directory location as the original.


If the word document is in C:\Docs\ and the excel file that the word doc links to is the c:\docs\excel\ then you should be able to copy the word doc to c:\NewDocs\ and the excel file to c:\NewDocs\Excel\ without breaking the links.


I think it will work backwards too but I'm not sure.

Word doc = C:\files\myfiles\docs\
Excel book = c:\files\excel\

Moving them to

C:\files\newfiles\docs\
c:\files\excel\

Might work. I'm not sure though.
