How to count cell values with text

Hi,
I have a problem while counting the cells that contain text.. The following is the data i have in sheet 1 and I want the count in sheet 2.. please help me out..


David a
Ryan a
Steve b
Kumar c
David a



Now i want the count in sheet 2 in the following format:

David 2 a
Ryan 1 a
Steve 1 b
Kumar 1 c



Please help me out.. thanks in advance..
