I have seen in the forums where lists are created by refering to column values in other worksheets. If you create a list by entering text values can you make other lists dependant to those values and can those lists also be made up of text lists?

Hello jloyzaga, and welcome to the forum.
Yes, you can create dependent lists, and here's the place to learn how, step-by-step: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataval02.html
For an introduction to Data Validation, which is how you create the dependent lists, see this page first: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal01.html
Hope that helps!
But it uses values that are in other worksheets - If you look at my attachment I use lists which use text values directly and not from a worksheet. I'm wondering how to make a secondary/sub list dependant on each value selected
so say if text value "A" is selected in list 1 then this only allows the list for "A" to be available for list 2 in its corresponding cell (the next one along)
I'm not aware of the ability to do that. I'd recommend just putting your dependent lists into a worksheet (even a hidden one, or way off to the side on a visible one) and reference those lists for dependency.
its possible in excel 2003 - look at attachment. I use the worksheets as data drivers for automated testing and each cell corresponds to an input parameter. Each Worksheet corresponds to a regression test Function so No worksheet should have hidden data as they will be "Processed" as input parameters for each test - no go.
