I want to put in a whole number but the when I type say:1234, the cell displays 12.34
I have tried 'format cells'; category 'general' or 'number' and changed '2' decimal places to '0' decimal places but then the display will show just '12' - not 1234.
Go to Tools|Options and in the Edit tab see if the Fixed Decimal is checked... If yes, uncheck it.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
