    Simple Ledger

This is going to sound very simply to most here I'm sure. I have a need for a simple ledger, credit, debit, balance. I will only have maybe 12 accounts and want to keep track of hand written invoices and payments.

Here's what I would like: I return to my office, click on a tab for an account, enter the date and amount of an invoice in a debit column for that account. When payment is made, enter the amount received in the credit column. Having a running total in the balance column. A monthly statement option would be nice, but not necessary.

I have searched for templates of general ledgers and get results with budgets, projects . . . just too complex for my needs now.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, here is just a simple idea of one account. Will need maybe 12 and was thinking a summary of all accounts would be handy as well. Also use Excel 2003.

    Like this?
Also,if you need something more be free to post it here.. If not don't forget to make this thread [solved]

    An notice.... First cells:

E2 and F2 are different formula than E3 and F3 because it's first value... Pull E3 and F3 formula down as much as you need

Edit: Monthly in table is status at beggining of month...

I made a slight change to that

I turned it int0 a table, click on the bottom row to add an item (a * will appear)

the last row is a helper row, so can choose a year-month, by clicking on the column title to show only a statement for that month!

Select show all again to see full ledger

also has advantage that you can sort by date incase you enter out of order!

    Re: Simple Ledger

Thats why I added the helper column, to avoid picking dates since there could be several transactions in the same day! And a years worth of data would make it more unweildy!

Plus you can print all transactions for a month as in a statement!

    Re: Simple Ledger

Well I resisted that, but as a note right clicking on the list and selecting totals line would also do the same!

(as a side note, 2007 makes it easier to work with tables!)

    Re: Simple Ledger

I've just looked at this and the last posted example.

The most efficient way of dong this is to keep all invoice records in one sheet, then you can use SubTotal Functions to review data when the list is filtered.

I use Excel to maintain accounts fr clients & input is controlled by userforms for both income & purchase invoices. I have only two sheets for the records - Receipts & Purchases.
    Hope that helps.
