    Pulling specific data

    Hello All,

I have a quick question regarding excel that hopefully someone could help with.. I'm stumped!

I'm trying to pull data from just a few entries out of a list, for example:

    Main list (all different columns):
    ABC 2 5
    BBB 3 4
    CDE 4 2
    EFE 2 1

Now, in different columns (same sheet), I have the list:

    BBB
    CDE

What I'm trying to do is run some sort of function/process to where excel searches through the main list and extracts the data for BBB and CDE and places it in the columns next to it. Any help? Hopefully I'm clear on what I'm trying to accomplish here. Thanks for any help!

    Re: Pulling specific data

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm still having issues, though, maybe I can explain in more detail if that would help. I'm getting a #REF! error, which I can't figure out.

    From A4:A300, there is text.
In B4:B300, and C4:C300, there are numbers.

Now, the list from which I want to search starts in E4, and goes through E30. The data I want to use in reference to the lookup would be in the A column. The output I want would be the numbers in B and C, respectively. I read through the site which was a ton of help, but I'm still getting the REF error. Any clue on what I'm doing wrong?

You should have posted the formula you are trying to use and the cell it's in; better yet, post a sample workbook with data that represents your actual data better. To post your sample WB use the paperclip icon in the top toolbar.

Here it is, this is just a quick example. I'm trying to look up the AAA, etc. and place the data for #1 and #2 from the list on the left.
