    Shared Tracker (workbook)

    Hi

I usually have 3 or 4 excel workbook conataining 2 sheets

These sheets are used to track calls and request received daily

These workbook is shared (shared option is enabled) and is accessed by 3 to 4 people at a time concurrently may be only 2 person work at the same time.

My company has a file server and these files are kept there and is accssed by my team mebers from there.

These workbook has VB scripting for automatic time and date display plus few formula and drop downs

On an average in a month roughly 1400 rows gets filled and roughly around 20 coulums

After every month I create a new tracker

Now the problem I am facing is that sometimes couple of workbooks delevop these kinds of problem

    1) the entire workbook becomes too slow while saving even though it might only have say 500 rows of entiries in it while another workbooks with above 1000 rows of entries would still be okay

    2) It might throw up conflict staying the book is locked for editing - even though its shared and inspite everyone closing the book/tracker and loging back doesnt slove the problem

I would be really obliged if someone can give me hints on how to resolve/prevent these issues

Unfourtunately I canot show a copy of the file due to company confidentiality reason

I am using or rather all of us are using execel 2003

    Thanks

    Re: Shared Tracker (workbook)

What's the file SIZE on the hard drive on the one that's gotten too slow? Is it abnormally large?

This happened on many of my wife's sheets recently, turned out to be hidden formatting out of control in the sheets.

The way we fixed it was to select all the columns to the right of our data that we weren't using, all of them, then click on EDIT > CLEAR > ALL. Then we selected all the unused rows below our data and did the same thing.

Then save the sheet. See if it's any better.

We had a 12 MEG file drop in file size to...80kb!

    Hope it helps.

Thanks JBeaucaire... I'll try that next time there is an issue and see if it works ( to be honest though I don't have any of the older files (recreated and transferred the content of the affected files) I did notice one file at alarmingly 180mb or so

Stormseed thanks for your advise - unfourtunatley despite the issues with shared excel I do need to use it and do without it - and to be honest these issue are fare few between to actually prevent me from using it
