    VLOOKUP function

Hi. I'm looking for a little help with a spreadsheet I'm building. I have 2 lists on 2 worksheets as follows...

    List 1

    Item Last Used
    A 05/06/09
    B 06/06/09
    C 05/06/09
    D 06/06/09

    List 2
    Item
    A 05/06/09
    B 06/06/09
    C 05/06/09
    D 06/06/09
    E 01/05/09

List 1 item is chosen from a drop down list by the user and I use a vlookup formula to pick up the last used date for that item from list 2. I need the sheet to alter the last used date of an item on list 2 if it is present on list 1 when the user runs a report via a macro. I thought I could use the macro to put the current date into a cell when the macro is run then use a vlookup on the last used date in list 2 to pick up the value of that cell if it is filled but I'm not sure how to do this.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Sorry for the long post and if it doesn't make any sense.
