    Comparing 2 colums

    Hi,
This is probably quite simple, but it's giving me a headache.
I have 2 colums, 1 for a date (A) and one for an amount in GBP (B) (i'm a bookkeeper),its for simple anaysis of recipts (petrol mainly)

What i want is a flag in colum C that will shout if a recipt is duplicated.
IE both date and amount are the same as another.

    So if A1 = 12/12/08 and B1 = £10.99
    and A97 = 12/12/08 and A97 = £10.99 then C97 ="DUPLICATION"

I dont need to know where it is duplicated (but would be better)

    (I'm using Excel 2002)

    Any help would be great
    Thanks in advance
    Tony.

    Re: Comparing 2 colums

hmmmm, Acually thats not quite what I was after. (i've only just got around to altering my sheet)

I have attached the workbook I want to edit.
Its the main tab I'm interested in.
    Colum A is the date
    Colum B is the amount
Colum C is a code which posts the amount to different catagories (on summery page)
Colum D is verification of where the amount is posed to.
Colum E is where I want my 'Warning' to appear

    000 basic.xls

The sheet you posted works, but I must enter the date and amount in the first row. I need it to pick up the duplications as i fill the rows with data. So if there is a duplication on row 23 and 299 it will pick it up.

Sometimes the rows can go into the thousands. I just fill down colums C & D as I need more (as i will with colum E).

    Thanks
    Tony
