How to (not) save workbook window position?

I have a silly little problem: I have two wide screens, and I stretch excel over both of them to gain the most useable space. Sometimes I save a file while it's on the right screen. This causes problems for my boss, because she opens the file on her computer and it opens offscreen way to the right. I could have sworn there was a setting in excel to save or not save the workbook's window position, but now I can't find it. No luck googling or searching here. Help?

    Hi there,

Not sure if there is an option, but you could do this with a little piece of VBA.

    1. Hit ALT+F11 to go to VBA Editor
    2. Double-click This Workbook from the window on your left.
    3. Copy and paste:

    4. Change the "Sheet1" reference to your sheet name.
    5. Change "A1" to whatever cell you want Excel to open in.

    That should do it.

Thanks, but that wasn't quite what I meant. I'm not talking about what cell is selected when the workbook opens, I'm talking about if the whole workbook window is not maximized. I like to be able to see two workbooks at once, so I have them positioned side by side. When I save the one on the right, it saves the position of the workbook relative to the upper left corner of excel's working area. I want it to not do that.

    Hello again,

It might be that you're thinking of a Workspace. In Excel 2007, this is found on the View tab within the Window command group. Just arrange the windows as you want them, then save the Workspace. When you open the Workspace it should open in the arrangement you saved it as.

I can't remember how one does this in earlier version of Excel, but I'm sure a visit to Google will rectify that!

Nope, that's not quite it either. I want the window to _not_ save its' position. I don't use a workspace. And this is in excel 2007.

If I understand correctly. The workbook is not within excel workspace viewing window. You can try to set workbook to open maximized. Set this on open.

That's interesting, but again, not quite what I'm looking for. The problem with that is, if the person viewing the workbook clicks the restore window button, the workbook will disappear off to the right again. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

I try to remember to save things on the left now when I'm going to give them to other people.

you Can do all of that. Just set the position and size you want when opening. This overwrites any previous restore size and position.

Hey, it worked! Awesome! Now I wonder if this is possible: Instead of saving this in one specific workbook, could this be saved in my personal.xls, and made to run automatically when any workbook opens completely off the screen?
