    Linking Forumals into One Cell

    Hi all,

I'm trying to generate a spreadsheet that will help me write pupil reports. I want to be able to create a list of sentences of intoductions, strengths, weaknesses and future developments and code these with a number. Then on another page enter the number so that the sentence appears in a particular cell. This would help speed up the time required to generate reports.

Some of the statements require the name of the pupil to be included at the begining of the statement to make it more personal. I've tried entering the name of the student in the cell next to the formula but when I copy it to word I have to format it (and I don't want to do much formatting!).

My question is, can I include a reference to the cell with the students name in it (eg. A2) as well as my IF formala in the same cell? I dont know how it would turn out but in my head it looks something like "=A2 and IF(...)"

I have attached an example to help you visual what I am getting at.

    Thanks in advance

I'd suggest that your use of IF functions could be replaced by using VLOOKUP() functions- they are more flexible, as you won't need to keep extending the IF statement each time another number is added to the Sentences worksheet.

See my attached worksheet as an example of what I mean. Essentially, you only need to add new numbers and sentences to the Sentences worksheet. The formula in cell c5 of the student worksheet is as follows:

If your sentences go beyond row 17 of the sentences worksheet, you'd need to modify the red bit to the new range.
