    Protecting a sheet

I have a problem trying to protect an individual sheet in my workbook. The protect sheet and protect workbook icons are not highlighted, in other words I can not click on them. Does anyone know how to make these clickable. thank you for your help.

Sounds like your workbook is set up as shared. Is that correct? If so you cannot set or remove protection from a shared workbook. You must do this whilst the workbook is not shared, and the protection will remain in place when the workbook is then shared.
