    Cool Excel Startup Read Only

I am trying to make a favorite entry that will launch an excel spreadsheet that will open it up read only. i am using office 2007

i know about the command line switch /r. as the file is not mine but is shared by others, i do not want to set IT to read only. and as a file admin i do not want to administer it by security permissions. any suggestions out there?

    Hi Cactus,
You may use the internal Read-only feature of Excel under "save as"

What i am really after is that i set my Excel to always want to open read only anytime anywhere. once i am in excel then i can use the open (dropdown) to choose to open read only or a straight open. and certainly if i create a file it would be read/write durning that session.

during my work day i am very often opening up references to other data (ACCESS OR EXCEL) and doing a lot of cross referenceing. sometimes that locks out the actual owner (as i have thier file open). most of the time i am just "looking up data rather than editing it. however there are times when i do create or edit data. for those times i will manually set it to a standard read/write other wise i would like my excel set to default "open read only". as you know you could launch excel from the start menu, by file explorer (double clicking on an excel file), or by shortcut of by favorites. thusly i have a dilemma .
