Column Headers/Names that stay set when Importing Data

    Hi All,

    Excel 2003.

    Lemme explain my title.

I have data that is in a text doc that I constantly convert to excel. I use the Data-Text to Columns because each column/field is seperated by a Comma so that's the best way to organize it. Each time I import this txt file, I have to re enter the first row of labels/field names for each column. I was wondering if there was a way to have these headers/names of the columns stored so lets say every week I went to add in the new data, I wouldn't have to add this first row in again?

    Thank you in advance!

I just reread that, I should note that I'm not adding the data..but in fact over writing the data with additional data.

    Josh

When you go to Import the data, it should be asking you where you want to import it to (e.g. current sheet $A$2). If you import underneath your predefined headers (e.g. in row 1), you shouldn't have a problem. Am I missing something?

    Nope, we're on different pages.
I would set up your template with the headers in row 1 or whatever, save that blank worksheet, and open it whenever you want to import a text file.
Then, from Excel, Import Data. It then asks where you want to import to.
    Does that work for you?

    Yes...there we go haha.

Um, I probably could google this but if you can give me a quick answer that'd be great. How do you create a template? Is it just the way you save the file as? Like under "Save as Type"?
