Formula for reproducing text in one cell in another

    Hello,

I am trying to create a formula which reproduces the text from one cell into another.

    This works...

    =C7

However, when I try and copy this cell and the formula, whilst the formulas follow suit, i.e. in D8 it says =C8; it retains the text from C7.

So you end up with something look like

    C

    7 John John
    8 Andrew John
    9 Billy John

It should of course look like...

    C

    7 John John
    8 Andrew Andrew
    9 Billy Billy

Anyone have any idea how I can fix this so I get the correct formula and the correct text?

    Mike

    Hello MikeWill,

Sounds like you have calculation set to manual. Press F9 to re-calculate (then formula results should update) or set calculation to automatic

Tools > Options > Calculation > set to "Automatic"

Thanks very much Daddy Long Legs - that's just what I needed - and I dont think I would have ever worked it out! Fantastic.

By the way why would anyone want to have the setting on manual?

its handy sometimes, especialy if your using rand() function and you dont want sheet recalculating while you do things!
