    copying and pasting formulas

evertyime i select a cell with a formula and drag it down one all the components of the formula go down one cell as well. Im using an SUMIF formual and the only thing i wanna change from one row to the next is the criteria, so when everytime i drag it down it also changes the range it makes for a very tedious process of correcting it. so my question is how do i past a formula and keep the original range?

    Hi JasonCrow,

That happens because you're using relative references, if you put a dollar sign before the reference's column and row names you won't have that problem.

    For example,

If you copy the formula =SUMIF($A$3:$A$50,B5) to another cell, the range $A$3:$A$50 will be the same but B5 is going to change accordingly to the address of the cell where you're going to paste the formula.

And if you want to change your formula to use absolute references, select the range in your formula and press F4, multiple times if need be. It will first make it absolute, and then make either the rows or columns only absolute...
