Number showing Extra decimal Places in formula bar

This is probably a very simple question for most of you.

If you look at the attached file in Column E line 47 you will see that it displays

373.97. However if you look in the formula bar it shows 373.9694.

I am trying to make it so that the formula bar shows the same number as in the cell. Any idea on how to do this? I have tried everything I know how to do, which is not much.

    Thanks in advance.

    Right click -> Format cells

You will see that cell is formated as number. choose number of decimal places (now to, extend to 4 or other)

Please, don't forget to make thread [solved]

Re: Number showing Extra decimal Places in formula bar

    Thanks for the reply.

I think I might have explained my question wrong.

I want it to only display 2 decimal places as it is showing in the cell. But in the formula bar it shows more decimal places. I need it to match.

How can I make the cell and the formula bar show only 2 decimal places.

well thats the number! where did the value come from? it needs rounding
you could try in a spare column =round(e7,2) and drag down to end of data
then copy paste special over values in col e
edited for some of the worst spelling I've ever done lol

    If you use

    Tools > Options > Calculation

    then select "Precision as displayed"

then all numbers will become as per the displayed values. Note: you can't reverse this so I suggest you save a copy before you try it......

Thumbs up Re: Number showing Extra decimal Places in formula bar

Success!! Thanks to daddylonglegs for the insight and the warning on not being able to reverse the selection.

    For 2010 users:

File > Options > Advanced > When calculating this workbook

then select "Set precision as displayed"

Warning: "Data will permanently lose accuracy"

    Click "OK"

Now non-calculated data displayed in the cells is displayed with the same decimals in the formula bar.
