Question Excel not to recognize date

I need to copy a cell onto another cell without formatting.

    wait it gets more complicated...

The cell I want to copy is a date and I want excel to recognize that its a date.
The second cell is a copy of the value of the first cell, so it still looks like a date but excel thinks its just a bunch of numbers and slashes/colons.

if you just look at the spread sheet both cells gotta look the same but I just want excel to recognize one as a date and recognize the other as just text.

    ideas? macros? functions?

If you have a true date in A1 then in B1

    =TEXT(A1,"m/d/yyyy")
