    Summing up correct answers

I'm working on a spreadsheet where I have a row of cells with the correct answers to a test as letters (A, B, C and D). Then I enter in students' answers and add up the number of correct answers manually.

Is there a way to formulate a column of cells to compare the students answers to the row of correct answers and add 1 every time their answer matches the correct one?

    Here's a screenshot of what I'm doing.

Thanks for the help in advance!

    Try

    =SUMPRODUCT(--(B5:Z5=B$2:Z$2))

    copied down
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Copy down column AA for each student row that exists.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

Activate the cell where you enter the formula.. and then click, hold and drag down the little black square at the bottom right corner of the cell.
