Workbook not displayed until office button is clicked in excel 2007

    Hi all,
I am using excel 2007, every time I try to open an excel file, nothing happens, excel just runs and the file is not displayed until I click on the Office button on the top left hand corner. I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it with no luck, every hot fix/updates have also been applied but I am still getting this small but yet very annoying bug. Anyone experienced it? I tried looking on a few websites still no luck. I couldnt find any similar scenarios. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Thanks for this man, I tried that and it didnt work, I thought it wouldnt any way because it is a different issue they are addressing ther which btw I had in the past on another pc. The problem here is that when I try to open the file nothing actually happens, untill I click a few times anywhere on the screen, but mostly the office button. this is very weird....

Do you have any add-ins or other startup files in your XLSTART directories? PDFMaker.xla is a fairly well-known cause for this sort of behaviour. The two XLSTART folders are usually:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLSTART
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
unless you are on Vista (or Windows 7).
Edit: the latter is also usually hidden in Explorer by default, so you would need to display hidden files and folders.

Thanks, it did work as soon as I removed that file from the folder, Is it ok to leave it out tough, I mean is that not going to create some other sort of very weird behaviour. Thanks so much for your help.

Was it PDFMaker.xla or another file? If it was an .xla file, then move it to the add-ins directory and install it properly via the Manage Addins section in the Excel Options.

Yes, That is exactly what it was; pdfMaker.xla. where is the add in directory? do I copy the file there and excel will pick it up as I do the install??

Depends on the OS but pre-Vista it's usually:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application data\Microsoft\Addins

and yes by default Excel should list every add-in in there.
Of course, if you don't ever create PDFs from Excel, you don't need it and there is in fact an MS add-in for 2007 to export to PDF.
