Copy/Paste data from web not showing as numbers??

    Hi all,

I am currently copying some numbers from the web and pasting them into excel.

The problem I have is that they don't seem to be pasting as numbers.
For example, when a do a simple SUM of two or more of the numbers, the result is 0 (zero). I then tried to do a simple test by multiplying the pasted data by 1 and the formula had the error #VALUE!
If I overwrite the pasted data by typing a number manually, it is fine....

Also to note, when the data is pasted it aligns itself on the left hand side of the cell. When I overwrite the data, it moves to the right. So for what ever reason I think the data is not pasting as a number / value ??

Any help would be very welcome.

If you could post the URL of the website and what data you are trying to copy that would be useful.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

You could try one or all of the following.

    1. Select the data - then right click and select format - number then select a format

    2. In an empty cell type "1". Copy that cell, then select the data and paste special - multiply.

3.Select the data and do data - text to columns - finish.
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

    The URL is :

    http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/d...=1&All=0#Race1

The specific data I am trying to get is the bootm lines in each row.
For example in the first row the data I am trying to use is 14.11, 21.94, 23.24 etc.

sweep, thanks for the help but that didn't work...

There are almost certainly other characters along with the numbers.

    Take a look here

    for some alternates
