    Excel Templates in v2003

    Hi all,

I used to be able create a custom workbook and save MyWorkBook as an .xlt file in ver2003. When I double-clicked on the MyWorkBook_.xlt icon, Excel will open a new workbook called MyWorkBook_1.xls

Unfortunately, this does not work anymore after I changed PC. I searched everywhere but not able to get the right solution to my problem. Does anyone knows how to rectify the situation?

    Many thanks,
    Lobbie

Do File > SaveAs, and save as an XLT file. The default bahavior when double-clicked is to start as a new workbook.
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

    Hi shg,

Thanks for the advice. I did exactly per your instructions.

Saved it as a xlt, double-clicked to open but it opened as an xlt file instead of a new workbook.

Try many times but still does not work. I need to open it in a new workbook.

    Regards,

    Please confirm two things:

o That you saved the workbook as a template from Excel (rather than saving as a workbook and changing the extension). Just double checking ...

o That if you right-click and select New (vs Open) that it indeed opens as a new workbook rather than opening the template.

'Tis true, I just need to recollect where that default behavior is set ...

From a browser window, Tools > Folder Options, File Types tab, scroll to XLT, click Advanced, in the Actions list select New

    Hi shg,

We are having a dust storm here in Sydney and the first I ever seen in more than 15 years. The dust must have clogged my nose and cleared my brain. I just thought could that File Type default opening actions could be the issue.

Went in and do what you suggested and it is is working now. It was showing a Restore button though and after restore, the button became Advance button and xlt now opens in a new workbook.

    Thanks.
