Sort function greys out and can't be selected

-Problem on all workbook tabs
-Problem persists when port of worksheet data is copied to new workbook.

-New workbook with newly typed data will allow sort.
-Can't get my existing workbook sort to work.
HELP PLEASE!!!

Well Mr. Carter, welcome but give us a little bit more to work with.

Most convenience is to upload a part of the WB itself to show/explain the error.
Tells us what the WB should do and isn't doing.

I am trying to highlight and sort part of the page. However, when I highlight it and choose Data, the Sort function is now greyed out and cannot be selected. I will try to upload the WB. (I am new to this form/site.)

Solved.
The workbook tabs had become "grouped" and "(Group)" would appear after the file name extension at the top of the window.
Solution: mouse over and right click a tab in the workbook. Select UNGROUP from the choices.
