Validation - List value or any number

Is there any way to add data validation that will accept either:
- string values from a drop down list
or
- any number

so for example, the user can either enter:
S
M
L
XL
or any numerical measurement

So I need them to be able to select the strings from a drop down list, or they can free type a number
