    Format as Table

    Hi,
I am having some trouble using the quick formatting options in excel 2007. Basically I have created a very simple table, and wanted to add the zebra stripped table layout with headings using the inbuilt features.

I select my range of the table, then do the following
Home > Format as Table > My table has headers

The result looks ok, but there are drop down menus (For a filter I believe) in my header row and excel takes it upon itself to rename my headers.

ie the first 3 columns for example:

    Category Category Category

    becomes

    Category Category2 Category3

Is there anyway to use excel to just format the cells without adding any of this unnecessary functionality?

    Thank You

    Regards Elbarto

If the filters aren't important then you could when creating the table stipulate that you don't have headers. This will still create the table and filters but will insert a default header row leaving your original titles untouched.

    Re: Format as Table

Thanks DonkeyOte. I had considered this but it requires an extra row and the formatting gets applied to the default header row rather then the first row which is my actual headers. It would be nice if there was the option to just format the cells only like what happens in WORD when you use the design feature on a table.

Not with the Table feature I'm afraid.

I suspected as much. Many thanks for your time on this matter anyway.
