    Data conversion

Currently I have a large spreadsheet which contains bookings from customers. Each row is a unique booking which includes all sorts of columns including the name, date the booking was made and the amount charged.

I am trying to convert this data so that I can graph and see daily totals for the total bookings made that day (eg. 26/10/09 - £2980.45). Some days we will receive NO bookings at all, some days upto 30 or 40 bookings.

Short of ordering the data by booking date and manually summing up each day in a new table is there are quick and easy way to do this? The end result needs to be a table with dates in column 1 and total daily bookings received in column 2 (simplistically speaking)

    Many thanks for your help.

    (PS I'm running Excel 2007)

Sounds like a task for PivotTables.

It will in part depend on whether you wish to display the dates for which no records exist... if so (and you wish to use a PT) you will need to insert dummy data for missing dates else pursue an alternative approach ... if not then a PT is definitely the way to go (you can run Charts off the PT data or setup a PT chart in the first instance).

Failing that see SUMIF/SUMIFS/COUNTIF/COUNTIFS functions in XL help
