New 2007 User - Very weird quirk with formulas??

I'm hoping there is a setting somewhere to fix this, because this is driving me nuts and slowing me down considerably.

Whenever I have columns hidden or grouped and I'm inserting a formula, as soon as I hit "+" or "-" or whatever to add two cells let's say, it opens up the grouping or hidden windows and if I click on a cell near that grouping will tend to select a group of cells and I have to then reclick on the exact cell I want to use in the formula.

If I'm working say with a formula that say adds several cells in a different worksheet, it keeps flipping back to the worksheet I am inserting the formula in everytime I hit a "+", "*", "-" or whatever so I constantly have to hit alt-tab to get back to the other sheet I'm linking to.

Hopefully I'm explaining this correctly. Because it's driving me nuts and if there isn't a fix for this, I'm utterly shocked that they would change this!

Another issue. When using a Sum formula and summing several rows of data let's say, I used to be able to click on the first cell, then hit CTRL and an arrow key which would include all the cells in that range (up, down, whatever) until it hit a break. That functionality seems to be gone as well with 2007!

Been working with this for weeks now, and am finally frustrated and tempted to go back to 2003 if I can't get a resolution!!

    Thanks!!

I'll post a sheet to show what is going on. In this sheet, I've grouped columns D through I. If I then try to add cells J5 + C5, after I type "=" and then click on J5, the Grouping opens up completely (and selects the whole group of cells instead of just J5), I then have to reclick on just J5 and then "+" (at which point the grouping closes) and then click on C5 (and again the grouping opens).

Another issue. If I then from Sheet 1 try to add C5 + the two cells on sheet2, when I click hit =C5+, then go to the other sheet and say click on B6 there and "+", it then takes me back to the first sheet rather than leaving me in the second sheet to continue any more selections from that sheet.

It's driving me nuts. On many sheets I have large groupings and use the freeze windows command quite a bit, and when the groupings open for formulas everything gets messed up and I can't even see the data without getting rid of the freeze windows and groupings and working with a limited range of display.

Really frustrating. 2003 so far seems to be considerably more efficient and user friendly. There must be a setting for this somewhere as otherwise I'll have to switch back!

    Thanks!!

Check your settings via Office button > Excel Options > Advanced > Lotus compatibility > Transition navigation keys.

    Make sure it is unchecked.

    THANK YOU!!

That fixed it. Phew, I really thought some developer for Excel had a brain hemorrhage!
