Tables Question

Hi All

i couldnt find anything like this but granted i dont entirely know how to search for my request:

lets say i have 3 different data sets
Months
People
Places

now for those i would like a table where i can select the month and it gives me the list of people and places. i can then write down the amount of hours spend at each place.

so as an example i select october 2009. it gives me something similar to

People |Places
..............|Place 1|Place 2|Place 3
person1.
person2
person3

i have to capture information for 7 years. and i dont want a massive spreadsheet id like a small table where i can select the month from a dropdown and it just displays the rows/columns for input.

can this be done?

You will have a massive spreadsheet. I mean data table

Filter it..... across the table headers, to refine the data
