Match and Lookup

I've used VLOOKUP quite a bit, but now want to attempt something which I have never done.
I have a workbook in which I want to match the value (a forename) on one sheet in column A to the same value on another sheet in column C and validate (lookup) that a code entered on the first worksheet in column C appears in column D on the second sheet (for the matched forename).
Help and advice much appreciated.
