After autofilter, Excel is deleting even the hidden rows!

I'm having the strangest problem. I've never encountered it before, and I spend a lot of time working in Excel.

This is happening on the fresh install of Excel 2007 on my new Thinkpad. When I autofilter data, and then select the rows I've displayed, and delete them, Excel deletes all the hidden rows inbetween.

I can't understand why this is happening, but it's a huge problem. I do this thoughtlessly all the time. Is there a setting I need to change or something I could be missing?

    Any thoughts are desperately appreciated.

Thanks for the idea, but this is happening in all sorts of situations, where I can be sure there aren't hidden blank cells.

    hi,

I've experienced this before with earlier versions of Excel & I'm not sure what scenarios cause this behaviour because I haven't taken the time to investigate. However, a quick work around is to press [alt + ;] (edit corrected typo from colon to a semi-colon), which limits the selection to visible cells, before pressing the Delete key.

Edit: Mohit beat me to it :-)
Another ("slower") way to do this is select your range, press [F5], [alt + s + y], [enter].
